My Feeling In Yoga Teaching

It just because it is the happening now, I found that is hard to teach Yoga now a days.. People expect lots of variation, stunning poses every class but with no strength and foundation. They abort Pranayama (Methods to Breath)– the most important part in a Yoga session; just because it is very “boring”..

I was once suspicious of my own ability and the competency . Have been very down with this matter for quite some time. Most of the people have misunderstood the real purpose of yoga now. They have the idea that they should do more advance poses like headstand, handstand , wheel… etc…. after they had attended the class for a few months. They expect to have diffent poses every class they came. If you don teach, they feel that you are unable to accommodate their request, you are not capable and its not attractive. But 1st of all, do they know that, they dont have the muscles strength and flexibility to accomodate some poses.

Everytime, I make them do something similar like Sun Salutation to build their stength and flexibility, some breathing and asking them to be patience for themself. Encourage them to practice more frequent. Do I need to set up the “right expectation for the members for this situation?

So!! here come the compassion, patience, understanding and maturity of a Yoga Teacher to walk the way thru…

A moment thinking thru and i realised my response is my choice, my attempt to do things does not make me feel that I am better than someone else but, it help me to build my business in a way that is more satisfying for myself and be proud cos I practice Yama and Niyama while I’m teaching and sharing the Yoga experience.

I was pleased and appreciate that still have some “fans” that do agreed with me and were happy and glad to see their improvement physically, emotionally and the courage to face live changes…. Keeping up guys, you know who you are. And also prove that, the method is safe and results rpoven. They can come to Virabradasana 3, Bakasana easily and be proud of themselves.

So everywhere offer the best, treat disagreement of some and I respect to all decision made and shared. And also accept someone else that have a different perspective. That’s no “right” or “wrong” answer. This is my path, and making ways for various possibilities to work through and thank you from the bottom of my heart for walking with me.

What Is A Yoga Teacher Should Know

6th Oct 08 12.34a.m

I just read an article by Paul Jerard (Director of YTT at Aura Wellness Ctr, Attleboro,MA) about “What Should A Yoga Teacher Know”… Stated there a sentence sounds : -

Demonstrating and correcting Yoga techniques is only part of the job when teaching Yoga classes. A successful Yoga Teacher must communicate with all students throughout the class and keep the passion for Yoga going.” – I strongly agree with that .
I found out that, Yoga Teacher now had been practicing in a diverse ways of what should an Yoga Teacher be from the (Yoga Sutrra) 5 Yamas : Ahimsa – to avoid violence, harming. Which inclusive of injuring ourselves or others in any way. Satya – to be true and honest; Asteya – avoid stealing in any way; Bramacharya - to be free in sensual imprisonment and to live in moderation ; Aparigraha - to be free from greed, wanting, hoarding and avoid being selfish.

These principles are no longer being aware and adopt by Yoga Teachers now a days. Teachers are condemning each other in getting popularity; teach whatever is not know by himself ; attending class today in a center or gym and teaching the same sequence of asanas at another places ???? and some even don’t know how to demonstrate a correct alignment and adjustment, the safety of the student.… Why can it be happened ??’

Just because learning Yoga is a TREND, In things, Oh!! The happening. You did, I did… ; aiming to have a better shape for body (yes, true everybody does)… . How many have forget about the meaning of Yoga – an unity of mind, body and soul. It for the whole body inside out. That’s the reason create for a demand for Yoga Teachers…. Centers start to recruit teachers, its good to have some side income too. That’s why pop out teachers that physically fit to perform all poses (asanas) , good flexibility but with no passion to Yoga. The key ingredients for Yoga has been discounted.

This is my personal view on Yoga trend today as a person that practicing Yoga and treating it as life-long knowledge journey and NOT as the owner of the Yoga center.

This is also not meant to disrespect to Yoga Teachers but is a feeling that Yoga Teachers now lack of passion in Yoga and should be more practice the ethical principles of Yamas and Niyamas.

Please post your comments and views about your experience with your yoga teachers, myself or others (pls don mentioned the name).
Namaste.

Head Stand (Sirsashana)

Hey! a few of our classes had been going thru the fabulous Head Stand with Chair (A practice from Iyerngar Yoga). Here are some of the pictures. Can you recognsied anyone of them?

This posture may look like imposing to those who haven’t attempted it. Nevertheless, it is an extremely powerful asana. It is called the "king of asanas" because of its overall effect on the whole body.

Benefits
*Calms the brain and helps relieve stress and mild depression
*Stimulates the pituitary and pineal glands
*Strengthens the arms, legs, and spine
*Strengthens the lungs
*Tones the abdominal organs
*Improves digestion
*Helps relieve the symptoms of menopause
*Therapeutic for asthma, infertility, insomnia, and sinusitis

Contraindications and Cautions
*Back injury, Headache,Heart condition,High blood pressure,Menstruation,Neck injury
*Low blood pressure: Don't start practice with this pose
*Pregnancy: If you are experienced with this pose, you can continue to practice it late into pregnancy. However, don't take up the practice of Sirsasana after you become pregnant.
*Sirsasana is considered to be an intermediate to advanced pose. Do not perform this pose without sufficient prior experience or unless you have the supervision of an experienced teacher. Some schools of yoga recommend doing Sirsasana before Sarvangasana, others vice versa. The instruction here assumes the former order.
Beginner's Tip
Beginners tend to take too much weight onto the neck and head when coming into and exiting this pose, a potentially harmful situation. Prepare to do this pose as described above against a wall. To come up, set your arms in place and lift your head slightly off the floor. Move into the wall-supported position with the head off the floor, then lower it lightly onto the floor. Support 90 to 95 percent of your weight on your shoulders and arms, even if it means staying for only a few seconds. Gradually, over time, take more and more weight onto your head, but proceed slowly. Similarly, when you exit this pose, first lift your head off the floor, then bring your feet down. Eventually you will be able to keep your head on the floor when going up and coming down.
